A MAN and his Mini are
all set for a mammoth adventure across the country as they gear up for a
six-week charity road trip. Stevie Mann from
Gunnislake and his 1987 Mini will be motoring the lenght of the land, visiting
165 lifeboat stations in a bid to raise money for the RNLI. Stevie will be covering more than 4,000 miles in the one-litre
Mini, which has been kitted out in blue, white and orange of the coastal
service. He said "The whole point was to raise
money for the RNLI, so I decided not to spend money on making the Mini a
showcase but to make it clean and tidy". But the
car has been given a revamp by Tavy Signs and Tavistock Tyre and Exhaust, both
of which are sponsoring Stevie's travels, Mr Mann said. Mini motor clubs are also getting involved with the charity drive,
which Mr Mann hopes will allow him to buy a "D" class inshore lifeboat, costing
£30,000. He said "This is a massive task but
I am really looking forward to it. "I will be
spending half an hour at every lifeboat station. It will get more difficult in
Scotland when sometimes I won't see a lifeboat station for hundreds of
miles". The trip begins at Land's End on September
1 and Stevie is appealing for other Mini drivers to join him on stretches of
the journey. For more information visit www.stevie-mann.com |
